Animal Crossing Watch App UI – Watch App UI Mockup

UI Mockup

This is the result of a school project where we had to take a popular game and design a companion app for the game, intended for use on watches. The game my group chose to design for was Animal Crossing New Horizons. We decided to design an app that would catalogue the player’s collectables, such as fossils, insects, and more. While this was a group project, I was fully in control of designing the app itself.

After deciding on what kind of menus we were going to need, I started off by creating some wireframes. It was around this stage that I realized that something as simple as searching was going to be difficult on mobile. Since keyboards are basically impossible on watch, the primary method of interaction would be via swiping, pressing large buttons, and through voice recognition if something needs to be searched.

I wanted to make sure that the app really felt like authentic, so I made sure to incorporate as much Animal Crossing iconography that I could, so that the icons are recognizable for players. Players can explore their own critterpedia and museum exhibits, and look at detailed information on each one that they can’t get from the base game. They can even view critters and exhibits that they haven’t obtained yet, and it will give them information on how to add it to their collection. This is to give users incentive to install and keep using the app, as it will embellish their Animal Crossing experience.
